Founding member of the legendary 80's hip-hop group Run-D.M.C, who were the first hip hop group to have a gold and platinum album and the first to be nominated for a Grammy Award and appear on American Bandstand.
He taught himself how to DJ after his brother gave him a turntable and a mixer.
He reached number one on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop charts for his band Run-D.M.C's debut album in 1984 and in 2009 they became only the second hip hop group to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
He has a wife and son and an older brother named Alford. He was adopted.
He performed with Steven Tyler and the band Aerosmith in 2007 for his song Walk this Way, which is featured on a Run-D.M.C song.
