Welterweight southpaw who won the gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. He previously won the gold at the 2013 AIBA World Boxing Championships and 2014 Asian Games.
He earned his breakthrough as an amateur in 2008 with a silver medal finish at the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships.
He won the 2013 and 2015 gold medals at the Asian Championships. He finished with a silver medal at the 2015 World Championships.
He has one child named Daniel. He has one brother named Dauren and one sister named Dinara.
He signed a pro contract with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Sport promotional company in March 2018, and became the first Kazakh to join their roster.
