Chilean actress who is best known for her performance in the 2017 award-winning film A Fantastic Woman. She is also known for having been the first transgender person in history to be a presenter at the Academy Awards ceremony.
She first started studying opera at the age of eight. She made her acting debut in the 2011 play La Mujer Mariposa which was based on her transition experiences. She gained international attention in 2017 when A Fantastic Woman first premiered at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival.
She was listed in Time magazine as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World.
She was first introduced to the entertainment world through Opera which she studied with her grandmother.
She starred alongside Laura Linney and Olympia Dukakis in the 2019 Netflix miniseries Tales of the City.
