Winner of all of four Grand Slam tournaments in mixed doubles, she was rated the fifth-best tennis player in the world in 2003.
She began her rise to fame in 2002 when she was ranked No. 38 in the world and rising to No. 26 with strong performances in Paris and Antwerp.
Though past her prime at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, she still had enough to upset the No. 10 seed Li Na in the first round and win out again, in straight sets, in the second.
She was born in Poprad, Czechoslovakia (modern-day Slovakia), her father a computer scientist and her mother a toxicologist.
Martina Navratilova was her mentor in the WTA and for a brief while her doubles partner.
