Psychiatry researcher and interpersonal neurobiologist who served as director of the University of California, Los Angeles' Mindfulness Awareness Research Center. He was honored as an American Psychiatric Association Distinguished Fellow.
After graduating from Harvard Medical School, he completed residencies in psychiatry and pediatrics at the University of California, Los Angeles.
He has published several scientific works, including The Developing Mind: How Relationships and the Brain Interact to Shape Who We Are; Healing Trauma: Attachment, Mind, Body and Brain; and The Mindful Therapist: A Clinician's Guide to Mindsight and Neural Integration.
He and his family settled in the Los Angeles, California area.
He and actress Goldie Hawn both opened centers for mindfulness training.
