His dyslexia made formal musical education difficult, so he dropped out of school to learn to play by ear.
He starter writing songs at age thirteen.
He grew up in Okanagan-Shuswap, British Columbia studying violin and playing his mother's piano.
His song "Bad Day" was played after John McCain's concession speech at the end of the 2008 presidential election.
