Professional pitcher that was drafted by the Chicago White Sox during the fifth round of the 2008 MLB Draft. He was acquired by the San Diego Padres via trade in July 2021. He was a first time National League Silver Slugger award winner in 2011, and he was a member of the 2019 World Series-winning Washington Nationals.
He made his professional debut playing for the Great Falls Voyagers of the Pioneer League.
He made his major league debut pitching against the Boston Red Sox on September 4, 2009 as a member of the White Sox.
He is a native of Lynchburg, Virginia. He lives with his wife, Sara, and their three children.
He was once packaged in a trade that included Corey Dickerson.
