Daniel Berrigan
Religious Leader
Priest in the American Catholic Church, poet, and political activist who is best known for his involvement in the Plowshares Movement.
He joined the Jesuit Order upon graduation from high school and was ordained in 1952.
He was put on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list in 1968 as a result of his Vietnam War protest activities.
His father was of Irish-Catholic descent, and his mother's ancestors were German; his brother, Philip, was also a priest and political activist.
He was a religious consultant for, and appeared briefly in the 1986 film, The Mission, which starred Robert De Niro.
