He attended the College of the Holy Cross and worked as a beat writer for the Baltimore Evening Sun, covering the Baltimore Orioles.
He's received several accolades for his writing, winning numerous Massachusetts Sportswriter of the Year awards.
He has three children with his wife Marilou. His niece, Meghann Shaughnessy, was a professional tennis player.
He's faced criticism for being too negative about the teams he covers, which led former Red Sox player Carl Everett to calling him a "Curly-Haired Boyfriend."
