Seattle-based author, journalist, and radio personality who began the It Gets Better Project to prevent suicide in LGBT youth. He also worked as an editor, columnist, and television host.
He was raised in a Catholic family in Chicago and studied history and theater at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
He worked as a theater director and was a founding member of the Greek Active Theater in Seattle, a company that became known for its queer-focused re-imaginings of classical theatrical works.
With his husband Terry Miller, he adopted a son. He and Miller were among the first gay couples in Washington State to obtain a marriage license.
He appeared on MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann to discuss political issues affecting the LGBT community.
