Dafydd Iwan
Politician
Welsh politician who served as the president of the Plaid Cymru political party from 2003 to 2010. He was also a well known folk singer.
He began his musical career by producing Welsh translations of popular English speaking artists, including Pete Seeger and Bob Dylan. He became inspired to get involved in politics to advocate for Welsh language rights.
In 1971, he was made an honorary member of the Gorsedd of Bards at the National Eisteddfod at Bangor for his service to the Welsh language.
His younger brother, Alun Ffred Jones, also became a politician. Their grandfather was one of the founders of Plaid Cymru.
Mary Hopkin was another popular Welsh singer of his time.
