Best known for his collaboration with Carolyn Leigh on Witchcraft and The Best is Yet to Come. He also collaborated with Joseph Allen McCarthy.
He attended the New York College of Music, but was a child prodigy before that, giving piano recitals at Steinway Hall, Town Hall, and Carnegie Hall from the ages of six until nine.
He received five Tony Awards, three Emmy Awards, and two Grammy Awards.
He married Shelby Coleman. The couple had one child together.
He collaborated on the 1960 musical Wildcat in which Lucille Ball made her Broadway debut.
