Cristina Peri Rossi
Novelist
Uruguayan fiction writer and poet who became known for her immensely successful novel, La nave de los locos (The Ship of Fools). Her other works include Solitario de amor (Solitaire of Love) and El amor es una droga dura (Love is a Hard Drug).
She received her formal education at the University of the Republic (in Uruguay) and subsequently worked as a journalist in Spain.
A vocal supporter of gay marriage, she expressed her joy when Spain embraced the practice.
She was born in Montevideo, Uruguay. Later in life, she relocated to Barcelona, Spain, becoming a Spanish citizen in the mid-1970s.
Her 1992 novel, La ultima noche de Dostoievski (Dostoyevsky's Last Night), was inspired by Fyodor Dostoevsky.
