He played baseball at Franklin High School, hitting .510 with 15 home runs his senior year.
He hit 15 home runs in 488 at-bats between Double-A and Triple-A in 2012.
His brother Caleb Joseph also played professional baseball.
Upon entering the MLB, he drew many comparisons to second baseman Chase Utley for a similar profile (left-handed hitter; more bat than glove) and similar minor league production.
