66th US Secretary of State who was the first female African-American to hold the position as well as the second African American and second woman. As Secretary of States she advocated the expansion of democratic governments and she was a leader in the Bush Administration's policies in the middle east.
She planned to pursue a higher education as a piano major.
She taught Political Science at Stanford University and in 2012, she was one of the first two women to ever become a member of Augusta National Golf Club.
She was briefly engaged to football player Rick Upchurch in the 1970s.
She was preceded by Colin Powell as Secretary of State.
