Portrayed the role of Sheriff Elroy S. Lobo in two TV series: BJ and the Bear and its spin-off The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo. He earned over 200 acting credits including movies and TV over the course of his career.
He pledged into the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity at Northwestern University.
From Here to Eternity was his first film in 1953, and in 1954, he played a seaman in The Caine Mutiny.
He married Therese Fairfield in 1952, and the couple had three children.
He worked with the great John Wayne on the film Rio Bravo.
