Versatile musician who arranged and composed more than 50 albums. He greatly influenced Herbie Hancock.
His breakthrough came in the five years he spent with the musically pioneering group The Hi-Lo's.
He composed the jazz standard Pensativa and a salsa standard called Morning, winning a Grammy Award for his album Clare Fischer & Salsa Picante Present "2 + 2" from 1981.
He was born in Durand, Michigan, the third of four children to a family of European descent.
He collaborated with such renowned artists as singer Natalie Cole, former Beatle Paul McCartney, and the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson.
