Session bassist known for his collaborations with celebrated musicians and acts like Steely Dan.
Rainey attended Lane College for brass, but learned how to play guitar when he was serving in the military. He picked up bass and moved to New York where his career launched.
He toured with The Beatles on their second tour in the United States.
He was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio.
He performed in a big band led by Quincy Jones in the mid-1970s while living in Los Angeles.
