Chef and television personality best known as the host of a Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) culinary show called America's Test Kitchen. He also published such magazines as Cook's Country and Cook's Illustrated.
Following his 1973 graduation from Columbia University, he began taking cooking classes while working in the publishing industry.
He launched his first culinary publication, Cook’s Magazine, in 1980.
With his first wife Adrienne, he raised four children. Following his 2012 divorce, he married Melissa Lee Baldino.
He appeared on This Old House, a Kevin O'Connor-hosted home improvement series.
