He debuted for the Otago rugby union team in 2007.
He was brought to the Highlanders to play a supporting role but was later named a starter due to injury.
His sister Kim became a member of the Black Sticks hockey team.
He replaced Mike Delany at first five-eighth for the Bay of Plenty during the 2011 ITM Cup.
