Hall-of-Fame Australian rules footballer in the Victorian Football League known for his hard-nosed style of play. He led Footscray to its only premiership in the VFL in 1954.
He debuted with Spotswood Football Club and initially had a tough time holding down a position with them.
He predominantly was known as a back pocket player but also was a rover and half-forward.
He had five children: Pamela, Charles, Charlene, Gary, and Dorothy.
He and Ross Abbey both played for Footscray.
