Charlie Shavers
Trumpet Player
Composer of "Undecided," a jazz measure, and known for his close ties with well-known swing era musicians.
He played piano and banjo before switching to trumpet; he played with John Kirby's Sextet when he was sixteen.
He toured Europe with Jazz at the Philharmonic, as well as spending time collaborating with Benny Goodman.
His father was a distant relative of Fats Navarro.
Shavers and Louis Armstrong were such close friends that as both men were dying, Shavers requested his mouthpiece buried with Armstrong in his coffin.
