Jazz musician and bandleader associated with the English dance band genre. In 1934, he began his solo career as a pianist and earned recognition for his uniquely accented playing style.
He began his professional musical career at the age of six.
His most popular piano tunes included "Clap Hands, Here Comes Charlie" and "Pink Elephants."
He grew up in Pennsylvania and later settled in England. His three marriages -- to Amanda Dysher, Nin Lloyd, and Pat Sparkes -- produced a total of three sons.
He and renowned singer Vera Lynn performed with the same British dance band.
