Charles Sawyer

During the late 1940s and early 1950s, this Democratic Party politician served as President Harry S. Truman's United States Secretary of Commerce. Earlier in his political career, he held office as Lieutenant Governor of Ohio.
He entered politics in 1912, serving as a member of the Cincinnati City Council.
He published a 1968 work titled Concerns of a Conservative Democrat.
His first marriage, to Margaret Sterrett, resulted in a daughter named Ann and sons named Charles, Jean, John, and Edward. Following the death of his first wife, he married Elizabeth De Weyrac.
After serving the Truman administration, he returned to Ohio and became a partner at the Robert Taft, Stettinius, and Hollister law firm.
