Actress who rose to fame for her turn in the titular role in the Netflix original drama film Roxanne Roxanne. She earned a 2017 Special Jury Prize from the Sundance Film Festival for her major breakout role. She also appeared in the 2018 film Monsters and Men.
She graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with her degree in drama in 2016. Her first major film audition was for Roxanne Roxanne after moving to New York City two weeks prior.
She starred in the Broadway production of August Wilson's Ma Rainey's Black Bottom in September 2016.
She gained many artistic sensibilities from her parents growing up, including a love of R&B music. She grew up with a sister and two older brothers.
She appeared alongside Mahershala Ali in the 2018 Netflix film Roxanne Roxanne.
