Her high school teachers convinced her to stay away from music for a couple of years. She attended Trinity Western University for biology and switched to education in Alberta.
She rose to fame by co-writing Chely Wright's single "Single White Female."
She married Matt Fisher in 2003 and they had two children together: Abigail Grace Fisher, who was born on September 16, 2008 and Bennett Derwin Fisher, born on February 3, 2010.
She occasionally performed with Martina McBride as a backup singer.
