Carles Puigdemont
Politician
Politician and journalist who served as the President of Catalonia from January 2016 to October 2017. After working in newspapers for years, he pursued a career in politics in 2006 when he was invited to be a candidate for the Parliament of Catalonia.
He became a reporter for the Diari de Girona newspaper when he was only 16 years old. He was one of the founders of the Nationalist Youth of Catalonia.
He was forced into exile in 2017, and remained in Belgium. He was free again to travel in 2018.
He has seven brothers. He married Marcela Topor in 2000. Their children are Magali and Maria.
Artur Mas was his predecessor as President of Catalonia.
