American country singer best known for his 1974 hit song "Country Bumpkin." He also sang the #1 hit "Lord Knows I'm Drinking."
He began performing at the Remember Me Cafe in San Francisco when he was fifteen years old and also worked jobs as a truck driver and a bronco buster before serving two years in the military.
He was the recipient of two Song of the Year Awards from the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association.
His wife's name is Darlene.
He was hired by Ernest Tubb to play guitar for the Texas Troubadours in 1961.
