American jazz musician who specialized in the clarinet, but also played the saxophone. He was a well-respected session musician.
He was taught to play the clarinet by classical teacher Franz Schoepp.
He performed on several Clarence Williams albums which make up some of his best known work.
He was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee.
He and Peewee Russell both played the saxophone and clarinet.
