Canadian-born NFL fullback for the Chicago Bears from 1930 to 1937 and again in 1943; later became a professional wrestler.
He was discovered by the University of Minnesota head coach, who saw him plowing a field.
He hauled bags of groceries for his parents as a youth and helped out in timbering operations near his hometown of International Falls, Minnesota.
He fathered a son, Bronko Nagurski Jr., in 1937, one year after marrying his childhood sweetheart, Eileen Kane.
He and Dave Winfield were named by Sports Illustrated as two of the four greatest athletes in Minnesota state history.
