Two-time Olympic silver medalist at the 1984 and 1988 Winter Games. He was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 2009.
His first athletic achievement came at the novice level in 1977, when he won a national championship.
He received an Emmy Award for his starring role on HBO's Carmen on Ice.
In 1998, he came out as gay.
He finished behind only Brian Boitano at the 1988 Olympic Games.
