Formed the reggae-rock band Sublime and died of a heroin overdose while the band was on tour. He was the guardian of Lou Dog, the unofficial mascot of Sublime.
He was so difficult to handle as a youth that his mother relinquished custody of him to his father.
He was at the height of his career when he died with the self-titled album Sublime and the many singles it spawned: "What I Got," "Santeria," and "Wrong Way."
He got married to Troy Dendekker on May 18, 1996 and they had one child together.
He sang with their musician Gwen Stefani.
