He, his brother, and fellow local musician, Gregory Williams, founded the group First Class in 1976, which eventually became Switch.
His stellar career was always marred by a persistent heroin habit, which he began in his early teenage years.
He grew in in Detroit, Michigan with an abusive father.
His group Switch and Barry White's backup singers White Heat teamed up on Switch's debut album in 1975.
