Texas-born singer-songwriter best remembered for his Gold-selling 1958 hit single "Rockin' Robin". In addition to his solo work, he was a member of groups like The Hollywood Flames and Bob & Earl.
He moved to California at age fifteen, where he performed with R&B act The Hollywood Flames.
Despite never recording another solo hit on the level of 'Rockin' Robin', he was a highly-successful songwriter for artists like The Dave Clark Five.
He is survived by four children and his wife Jackie.
His hit "Rockin' Robin" took on a life of its own, being covered by young pop megastar Michael Jackson in 1972.
