Klansman was convicted in one of the most notorious crimes of the Civil Rights era, the bombing of a Birmingham, Alabama church.
He and his partners were immediate suspects in the church bombing, but the FBI refused to pursue the case.
It wasn't until a decade later, after a thorough investigation, that one of his accomplices was put on trial and convicted that Cherry himself was tried.
His wife's testimony, that he bragged to her about making a bomb, was instrumental in his conviction.
Tom Sizemore starred in a television docudrama about Cherry's life, entitled Sins of the Father.
