After making his television debut in a 1978 episode of the series The Devil's Crown, this British actor played recurring roles on Crime Traveller and The Bill and acted in several films, including The Borrowers, Flash Gordon, and Lighthouse.
After studying at London's their Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), he helped found a theater company called Shared Experience.
He penned the libretto for an opera composed by Giorgio Battistelli.
He settled in Bloomsbury, London with his wife and three daughters.
He and Mel Smith appeared on stage together at Edinburgh, Scotland's Traverse Theatre.
