American race car driver who raced for the Shelby American, Ferrari and Eagle teams. He founded Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving.
As a child, he persuaded his mother to purchase a Whizzer electric bike so he could deliver his newspapers faster. By age 14, he owned his first motorcycle.
In 1966, he and Graham Hill risked their lives as they helped driver Jackie Stewart escape from his fuel-soaked, wrecked car during the Belgian Grand Prix.
He was survived by his wife Pat.
He was a driving instructor to actors including Tom Cruise, Nicolas Cage, Christian Bale, Paul Newman and Clint Eastwood.
