Billy Butterfield
Trumpet Player
American jazz trumpet player and big band leader of the Twentieth Century. He is perhaps best remembered for his exquisite trumpet solo in the Artie Shaw orchestra's 1940 version of 'Stardust.'
Before becoming a successful musician, he pursued a career in medicine.
He played the cornet and the flugelhorn, in addition to the trumpet.
He was a native of Middleton, Ohio.
He collaborated with fellow bandleader Ray Conniff on two albums: Just Kiddin' Around and Conniff Meets Butterfield.
