He set world-records in freestyle swimming as a teen.
He won an Australian Film Institute Award for Best Actor in A Lead Role for his performance in the 1978 film Newsfront.
He was married to his third wife, Rhoda Roberts, from 1993 to 1999.
He co-starred in the 1994 film Muriel's Wedding with Toni Collette.
