Country musician during the 1940s and 1950s who was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. His song "What Kinda Deal Is This" charted at #4.
He started out performing in the 1920s on local radio stations before releasing his solo debut single, "Rattlesnake Daddy," in 1933.
He created an alter ego persona called Hot Shot Elmer on the WNOX shows Mid-Day Merry-Go-Round and Tennessee Barn Dance.
His older brother is singer Cliff Carlisle who he sang with early in his career.
His hit 1952 song, "Too Old to Cut the Mustard," was covered by Rosemary Clooney.
