Big Bill Broonzy
Guitarist
Mississippi blues singer, guitarist, and songwriter whose career spanned nearly four decades.
Many of his early works dealt with war experience and the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927.
He began in the twenties playing country blues, expanded his repertoire to include an urban sound, and then returned to making folk blues in the 1950s with the revival of the genre.
He was born William Lee Conley Broonzy in the town of Scott, Mississippi to a sharecropping family.
After the 1950s folk blues revival, he recorded and toured with prominent musicians like Pete Seeger and Brownie Ghee.
