Sound engineer, composer, and visual effects artist who received an Oscar for his sound work on "When Tomorrow Comes" from 1939.
He began working on the film "That Certain Age" in 1938. Early in his career, he also composed musical scores for Warner Brothers cartoons.
He was nominated eight times for an Academy Award in the Best Sound category. He was also nominated three times in the category of Best Visual Effects.
He was born in Wisconsin and died in Glendale, California.
He worked on the 1943 film version of "The Phantom of the Opera," which starred Nelson Eddy.
