Ben Lear
War Hero
Canadian-born U.S. Army general who fought in the Spanish-American War and in World War I.
He was a notorious stickler for discipline, even in his younger years.
He ordered an entire regiment of soldiers to walk fifteen miles in hot, unrelenting sunlight after some of the soldiers had cat-called passing women.
He grew up in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
He and Melvin Zais were both decorated generals.
