While mostly staying on stage, she had several memorable roles on television. She played Dr. Lesh in Poltergeist, and the mother of the title character in Wonder Woman.
She was born in New York City as the daughter of Willard Dickerman Straight, an investment banker, and Dorothy Payne Whitney, a philanthropist. She was raised as a member of the powerful Whitney family.
Lynda Carter played Wonder Woman, her daughter, on the show Wonder Woman.
