After being crowned Miss Venezuela in 1986, this Spanish-born beauty queen was awarded the coveted Miss Universe title. Later in her life, she worked as both a television host and an advertising executive.
In the Miss Universe pageant, she competed against eventual runners-up Christy Fichtner (of the United States), Maria Monica Urbina (of Colombia), and Brygida Bziukiewicz (of Poland).
She opened an American-based women's jewelry and cosmetics company called the Barbara Palacios Corporation.
Following their 1988 wedding, she and her husband, Victor Manrique, became parents to two children. Her mother, Barbara Teyde, was a prominent Venezuelan actress.
After Palacios ended her year as Miss Universe, future First Lady of Argentina Cecilia Bolocco received the 1987 international beauty pageant crown.
