Babette Deutsch
Poet
American poet, translator, editor, and novelist best known for Animal, Vegetable, Mineral, a poetry collection published in 1954. Her other notable works include Coming of Age and Mask of Silenus.
She was born and raised in New York City and began publishing poems while studying at Barnard College.
She was awarded an honorary D. Litt. by Columbia University in 1946.
She published an anthology of Russian poetry in 1921. In that same year, she married fellow translator and writer Avrahm Yarmolinsky.
She translated Eugene Onegin, a their work by Alexander Pushkin, into English.
