Flugelhorn, trumpet, and flumpet player who is known for his 1952 composition "Farmer's Market."
He started teaching himself how to play trumpet and cornet at the age of thirteen.
He suffered from a lot of lip-related injuries throughout his career.
His wife Mechtilde Lawgger was a Viennese banker and they raised a son together; after his wife passed away, he became involved with his manager Lynne Mueller.
Farmer was honored at the Alice Tully Hall in New York, where Bill Jones once performed with Toni Morrison.
