He started on the radio, in the Mid-Day Merry-Go-Round with Roy Acuff, and co-created the Tennessee Barn Dance.
He intentionally kept Hee Haw simple and accessible to everybody, with humor usually coming from spoonerisms and sketches like That's Bad/That's Good.
He grew up with this family in Bulls Gap, Tennessee.
His Barn Dance radio show helped launch the careers of prominent country music stars, including Chet Atkins.
