She won multiple beauty pageants as a student at Campbell High School in 1997. She later graduated from College of the Ozarks as valedictorian of her class with a 4.083 GPA.
She has been included on a number of "most beautiful people" lists, including People Magazine's 100 Most Beautiful People of 2006 list.
Her birth name is April Ann McIntosh. She is of Spanish, French and Native American descent.
