5-time MLB All-Star center fielder who played for seventeen seasons with the Chicago Cubs, Brooklyn Dodgers and Milwaukee Braves.
He spent his childhood days on a farm in Wisconsin and was in charge of milking the cows.
He was the only player born in Wisconsin to be on the Braves roster when they started playing in Milwaukee in 1953.
He married Ellen Pafko in 1947.
He was in left field on Oct. 3, 1951, the day that Bobby Thomson hit the their, "shot heard round the world," against his teammate and pitcher, Ralph Branca.
